 Kay Lynn - “Ms. Kay”

Began CrossFit in September 2009 when my husband, Thomas, asked me to come with him to work out.   “Why would I want to that?”  I had seen how he looked returning home from a workout and of course he had to explain every detail of each WOD.  “Who will have our supper ready when we get home?” I said.  “I don’t know but I want you to come with me,” Thomas replied.  So I went knowing I could not do the workouts... but Chip Pugh showed me how to modify and scale so I could participate and thus, my CrossFit journey began.   We worked out with CrossFit Cookeville in the awful stadium and later the gorgeous Athletic Performance Center at Tennessee Tech and when CrossFit Cookeville closed, Mayhem reopened so that’s how we came to be at CrossFit Mayhem.

I have always enjoyed sports and being physically active but have no real athletic achievements of which to speak.  I lettered in varsity basketball in high school when the women’s game was 3 v. 3 half court style.  Seriously!

Alcoa High School was my alma mater along with Tennessee Technological University.

I have a B.S. and M.A. in Physical Education from TTU.

CrossFit certifications include CF Level 1, CrossFit Weightlifting, CrossFit Kids, Movement & Mobility and the online CrossFit Scaling Course.  Earlier experiences include group fitness instructor for the YMCA with several certifications through the Y Program along with certification through the American Council on Exercise.  For over twenty-five years I served as a volunteer Water Safety Instructor for the American Red Cross teaching swim lessons in the summers.

I grew up in Alcoa, Tennessee, home of the Aluminum Company of America and the Alcoa High School Tornadoes!

My family includes Thomas, my husband of almost 39 years!!! We have four children: Patrick, Jack and his wife Lindy, Katherine and her husband Matt Hill, and Bobby and his wife Madison.  Jack and Lindy have our granddaughter Pryce and are expecting their second child this October. Woo Hoo!!!  I am proud to say that all of our children and their spouses have participated in CrossFit at some point along the way.  Our youngest son Bobby is a coach at CrossFit Coppell near Dallas, TX and of course our CrossFit highlight as a family  was watching Thomas compete in the 2014 games as a Master’s athlete.

We have found CrossFit to be transformational.
